About the League

President: Francisco Marcos
Vice President: Tim Holt

As the largest organization of soccer leagues in North America, United Soccer Leagues is dedicated to growing the sport at the grassroots level in every community across the U.S. and Canada. USL is committed to a quality family entertainment experience that is accessible, exciting and educational.

From its beginnings as a five-team regional indoor league in 1986, USL has grown to scores of teams competing in five separate leagues across the country – the USL First Division, USL Second Division, Premier Development League, W-League and Super Y-League. In November of 2004, the A-League was renamed the USL First Division, with the Pro Soccer League now being called the USL Second Division..

USISL, as it was then known, created an amateur outdoor league in 1989 that divided into professional and amateur leagues in 1995 after continued growth. Those leagues would become the PSL and PDL with the A-League joining USL in 1997. The W-League was founded in 1995. The Super Y-League was established in 1999 and has quickly grown to over 500 teams and includes an ODP identification program.
The USL First Division is the second level of soccer in the United States and Division I in Canada.
