About U.S. Soccer Youth Invitational Events
U.S. Soccer, in partnership with Nike, will host two youth futsal invitational events in March and April as part of a new initiative in the development of elite U.S. youth players.
Last fall, U.S. Soccer announced that futsal will be a part of the U-13/14 Development Academy calendar. The Under-13/14 division was created to enhance player development and will consist of current Academy clubs and possibly a limited amount of clubs from outside the current Academy structure.
The first event will be held from March 1-3 at the Competitive Edge Sports Complex in King of Prussia, Pa., and will feature the U-13/14 boys' teams from the top clubs in the area. Participating coaches will be required to attend a futsal symposium led by U.S. Soccer Futsal Team Head Coach and FIFA Futsal Instructor Keith Tozer on Feb. 7 at YSC Sports in King of Prussia, Pa. Local officials interested in futsal will be able to participate in a referee certification clinic on Feb. 9 led by FIFA Referee Futsal Instructor Ed Marco in Philadelphia.
Los Angeles Invitational
The west coast event will be held from April 19-24 at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Ca., and will feature U-13/14 boys' and girls' teams from the top clubs in Southern California. Similar to the east coast event, coaches will be required to participate in a futsal symposium led by Keith Tozer and local officials will have an opportunity to participate in a futsal certification clinic conducted by Ed Marco in Los Angeles.
