The USA has mounted an exceptional 5-1-1 record thus far in 1999, highlighted by victories over Germany (3-0 on Feb. 6) and Argentina (1-0 on June 13). Brazil is the third former World Cup champion that the USA will have faced this year. The American men will close out the tournament's opening round on Friday with another tough re-match, this one against Germany, a team it defeated 3-0 nearly five months ago.
In Group A action yesterday in Mexico City, Saudi Arabia and Bolivia played to a scoreless draw, while Egypt bucked the odds - after going down two goals and having a player ejected - with a late comeback to tie Mexico 2-2 at the Azteca Stadium.
