U.S. to Battle Russia in First Ever Moscow Showdown on April 26 Live on National Pay-per-View Broadcast

With Innovative Sports Marketing acquiring the rights, in association with Nike and EuroSport, to bring the game back to the U.S., the game marks the widest ever distribution for a U.S. National Team pay-per-view match. In addition to blanket coverage on cable operator pay-per-view networks, the match will also be broadcast live on the DISH Network. The U.S. and Russia have technically met on three previous occasions, but never in Moscow. The U.S. is 0-1-2 all-time against Russia, but has also played two matches against the Commonwealth of Independent States (going 1-1-0 in 1992) and four against the Soviet Union (going 0-3-1 dating back to 1979).
The only victory for the U.S. in nine matches against national teams representing Russia came on Feb. 2, 1992, courtesy of a 2-1 triumph over the C.I.S. in Detroit, Mich. Veterans Marcelo Balboa and Eric Wynalda scored in the match, with Tony Meola picking up the victory in goal.
With Major League Soccer in full swing during the USA-Russia clash in Moscow, the U.S. roster will likely be made up predominantly of overseas professional players. An official roster will be announced in the coming weeks.
The U.S. is currently preparing for a match on Sunday, March 12, at Legion Field in Birmingham, Ala., against Tunisia. That game will be broadcast live on ESPN2 at 1:30 p.m. CT.
