Two goals by Columbus Crew forward Edson Buddle sparked Project-40 to victory against the Whitecaps on Friday. The former member of the Long Island Rough Riders collected a poor clearance from Vancouver goalkeeper Didar Sandhu in the 38th minute and calmly put home a 40-yard shot into the empty net, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Buddle then struck again two minutes from time, after Vancouver had tied the score at 1-1 in the 86th minute. Taking a pass from teammate Miguel Saavedra (Dallas Burn), Buddle sidestepped the charging Sandhu, and tapped home from five-yards out for the game-winner.
On Sunday against Seattle, Project-40 found itself down 2-0 in the first half after the Sounders took goals from Christer Forsberg (8th minute) and Leighton O'Brien (25th minute). The second half saw Project-40 come to life scoring as Alex Bengard netted a left-footed shot from 20 yards out in the 53rd minute, slicing the Sounders' lead to 2-1.
Tampa Bay Mutiny forward Devin Barclay knotted the game in the 65th minute when he converted a penalty shot after being fouled in the 18-yard box by Seattle's Jeremy Sweet. Barclay's spot kick beat diving Sounders' goalkeeper Preston Burpo low to the left corner.
Nike Project-40 will finish its swing through the Pacific Northwest with a closed door match against the Portland Timbers at 7:00 p.m. (ET).
