CHICAGO (Dec. 11, 2013) – U.S. Soccer has released the contenders in the Best of U.S. Soccer: #100Years Edition, providing fans with the opportunity to determine the top moment of the Federation's history.
Set-up as a bracket-style competition that pits the top moments across U.S. Soccer’s 100-year history head-to-head, fans will vote each day to eventually determine their favorite moment of all-time.
Fans can vote round-by-round during the next week, with the winner being determined on Wednesday, Dec. 18.

- Eligible players for All-Time Best XI
U.S. Soccer selected 64 moments from its past 100 years and seeded them 1-16 in four different regions. The top seeds in each bracket comprise some of the most memorable soccer-related events across the Men’s, Women’s and Youth National Teams during the last century. One region also includes some of the light-hearted moments, such as “Wambach Hits Hot Dog Fan,” still one of the most-watched videos on U.S. Soccer’s YouTube page.
Along with U.S. Soccer’s forthcoming announcement of the All-Time Best XI for the Men’s and Women’s National Teams, the Best of U.S. Soccer bracket-style competition will close out the year-long Centennial celebration.
In an effort to create a fair and reasonable process to determine the All-Time Best XI, U.S. Soccer appointed a committee of soccer historians and former players, coaches and administrators at the National Team level. The committee determined the list of eligible players for selection to the Best XI, as well as the criteria to be considered by the list of voters. Voters for the Best XI comprise former players and administrators, as well as media members.
U.S. Soccer will reveal the All-Time Best XI for the Women’s National Team on Dec. 19, followed by a Men’s National Team on Dec. 20.
Last month U.S. Soccer named its 2013 Athletes of the Year to begin the Federation’s Centennial award season.
