U.S. Beach Soccer Team Falls Short of Rome 2011 With Semifinal Loss to Mexico

The U.S. Beach Soccer Men's National Team dropped it's semifinal match against Mexico, falling just short of Rome 2011

The U.S. Beach Soccer Men’s National Team dropped its key semifinal match against Mexico, falling just short in their quest to qualify for the 2011 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.

Mexico, who will go to Rome 2011 along with El Salvador, scored just seconds into the match, but then had to sustain tremendous pressure from the United States. Finally, in the second half, Oscar Gil leveled the score on a free kick. Gil’s goal was his fourth goal in three games in Puerto Vallarta.

Knotted at 1-1, the game extended into penalties. Mexico’s Franz Torres converted the first kick and American Yuri Morales, who was the hero in the USA’s win against Costa Rica the day before, clanged his shot off the post.
