July 19, 2011
CHICAGO (July 19, 2011) – U.S. Soccer’s Coaching Education Department will conduct a coaching symposium Aug. 27-28, in conjunction with the U.S. U-15 Girls’ National Team, the U.S. U-17 Women’s National Team and Japan’s U-17 Women’s National Team.
The symposium, which will take place at U.S. Soccer’s National Training Center at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., presents a unique opportunity to observe three different youth national teams. Both the U.S. and Japan are preparing to qualify for the 2012 U-17 Women’s World Cup scheduled to be held in Azerbaijan.
“The symposium will focus on our National Team in three modes: training, preparation and international competition. A custom feature of this event is that participating coaches will have an opportunity to gain uncommon technical insight during pre-match and post-match group discussions with National Staff Coaches,” said U.S. Soccer Director of Coaching Education Dave Chesler, who will oversee the two-day event. “These insights are the building blocks for a distinct understanding of the inter-dependence of training and match performance.”
Registration for the symposium includes two days of educational presentations and discussions, an opportunity to observe U.S. Youth Women’s National Team training sessions, lunch and a U.S. Soccer CoachesNet scouting and training notebook. Cost for the symposium is $140 for active U.S. Soccer CoachesNet members and $150 for non-members. Registration is open to all coaches and should be submitted by Aug. 12.
“This opportunity will allow us to examine our Youth National Team relative to the style and strengths of Japan, a soccer nation that is one of the most rapidly developing programs in the world and 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup champions. This is a rare opportunity to analyze the U-17 version of the recent Women’s World Cup Final,” said Chesler.
U.S. Soccer “A” licensed coaches will earn two “Continuing Education Units” for attending this symposium after successfully completing a related course assignment.
