Jan. 25, 2013
CHICAGO (Jan. 25, 2013) – In commemoration of its 100th anniversary, U.S. Soccer is embarking on a year-long celebration honoring its history and setting a path for the future of the sport throughout 2013. In connection with the Centennial, U.S. Soccer’s Coaching Education Department will launch a Coaching Symposia Series beginning with the Men’s National Team’s FIFA World Cup qualifying home opener against Costa Rica on March 22 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo.
From March to October, coaches will have the opportunity to take part in U.S. Soccer’s celebration and support the MNT in its quest to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
The Symposia Series will be held in conjunction with the following games (locations will be announced at a later date):
- March 22 vs. Costa Rica (Dick’s Sporting Goods Park; Commerce City, Colo.)
- June 11 vs. Panama
- June 18 vs. Honduras
- Sept. 10 vs. Mexico
- Oct. 11 vs. Jamaica
“The Symposia Series will focus on style, strategy and multi-match trends and patterns,” said U.S. Soccer Director of Coaching Dave Chesler. The Symposia Series will give attendees an “insider’s” view of 2014 World Cup qualifying.
Registration for the March 21-22 symposia includes two days of professional educational presentations and discussions, guest presenters, exclusive training session access, match ticket, pre-game reception, game-day parking pass, a U.S. Soccer gift, and a 100th anniversary certificate of attendance. The cost for the symposium is $340 for active U.S. Soccer CoachesNet members and $350 for non-members. Registration is open to all U.S. Soccer-licensed coaches.
Special hotel pricing has been secured for this two-day symposium. Additional details will be shared with registered coaches.
The U.S. is joined by Costa Rica, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico and Panama as the final six teams set to compete in the 10-game round-robin format from Feb. 6-Oct. 15. The top three teams automatically advance to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, while the fourth-place finisher will contest a two-game playoff against the winner of the Oceania region.
U.S. Soccer “A” licensed coaches can earn two (2) “Continuing Education Units” for attending this symposium and completing a written technical component related to the match.
