Day One in the Books for U-17/18 Teams, U-15/16s Ready to Hit the Field at Finals Week
With the first four games in the books for the U-17/18 age group, the attention at Finals Week now turns towards the eight U-15/16 teams who will get underway later today (July 11) at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

HOW THEY GOT HERE: The 2008-09 Development Academy season was the first to implement a playoff system, as 32 teams from each age group converged on Greensboro, N.C., from June 26-29, to determine the final 16 teams who would advance to Finals Week. Broken up into groups of four, the teams played three games over the course of a long weekend at Bryan Park, with only the eight group winners advancing to Carson, Calif. CARMEL UNITED AND D.C. UNITED TOP U-17/18 GROUPS: After the first four games in the U-17/18 age group, Carmel United and D.C. United have taken the early positions at the top of their respective groups. Carmel scored an early goal against FC Greater Boston to come away with a 1-0 victory, while D.C. United tallied the most goals on the day in a 3-1 win against CASL Chelsea FC. In the other two matches on the day, PDA overcame a two-goal deficit to draw with Real Colorado in Group 2 while IMG Academy and the Dallas Texans fought to a 1-1 draw in Group 1. WATCH U-17/18 GAMES FROM FRIDAY ON ussoccer.com TODAY: Catch all the action from the opening day of games from the U-17/18 age group today on as all four games will be replayed on ussoccer.com. Starting at 2 p.m. PT, each match will be played back-to-back giving fans the opportunity to watch some of the best youth players in the nation. The one-day delayed broadcasts will be available for every game played during Finals Week, with the exception of the two championship matches on July 16 and July 17, which will be shown live on ESPN Classic.

CHAMPIONS TO BE CROWNED LIVE ON ESPN CLASSIC: For the second consecutive year, during Finals Week with the championship match in both age groups being broadcast live on ESPN Classic. Both matches will be played at U.S. Soccer’s National Training Center at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., with the U-17/18 championship taking place on Thursday, July 16 at 7 p.m. PT and the U-15/16 championship a day later on Friday, July 17 at 7 p.m. PT.
CONFERENCE AWARDS UNVEILED: The 2008-09 Development Academy Conference Starting XI and Coaches of the Year for both the U-15/16 and U-17/18 age groups have been unveiled just before the start of Finals Week. Development Academy Starting XI and Academy Players and Coaches of the Year will be announced next week. All awards were voted upon by Development Academy clubs and national staff coaches.
