July 14, 2010
GLIMPSE AT GROUP 1: FC Dallas and Derby County Wolves played the game of the day on Tuesday afternoon, a back and forth affair that saw two goals scored within one minute in the second half. The 1-1 draw put FC Dallas in the driver’s seat in Group 1 and simultaneously eliminated last year’s U-15/16 champion Derby County Wolves for contention. In Tuesday afternoon’s other match, Crossfire Premier kept themselves in contention with a key 1-0 win against CASL Chelsea FC.

PLACEMENT TO PLAY FOR: Though the U-15/16 finalists have both been determined heading into the final day of group play, Friday’s other placement matches are still up for grabs. By the end of Wednesday night, all eight teams will be set to play for seventh, fifth and third place as the Chicago Fire and Cal Odyssey compete for the championship.
U-15/16 Quick Hits
• 2010 is the first time that both finalists in one age group have been determined after just two games.
• Chicago Fire’s Jesus and Luis Medina both scored in the same game, a 2-0 win against D.C. United that helped put the Fire in the championship match.
• A total of 13 different goal scorers have found the back of the net in eight U-15/16 games so far.
• Incredibly, there have also been seven shutouts in the age group.
• Three players – Villyan Bijev (Cal Odyssey), Daniel Flores (Cal Odyssey) and Monbo Bakar (CASL Chelsea FC) – have scored two goals through their first two games.
• D.C. United will be looking for its first goal of the tournament against Sockers FC on Wednesday evening. Baltimore Bays Chelsea will also be looking for their first tally in the Group 2 finale.

THE MOST COMPETITIVE MATCHES: The Development Academy playoff system was created to add to the number of meaningful games for Academy athletes, further enhancing the player development process. Since its launch in the fall of 2007, the Academy has improved the training environment, provided relevant, high-level matches on a consistent basis, increased the level and efficiency of scouting for the national teams and provided players, coaches and referees with structured programming.
