U.S. Futsal National Team Names Roster for Training Camp at Soccer City in Torrance, Calif.
Head Coach Keith Tozer Calls in 20 Players to Begin Preparations for Gran Prix; Team Building towards FIFA World Cup Qualifying in 2012
Sep. 23, 2011
CHICAGO (Sept. 23, 2011) – The U.S. Futsal National Team will convene for a training camp with head coach Keith Tozer assembling the squad from Sept. 24-Oct. 1 at Soccer City in Torrance, Calif. The training camp follows on the success of a player identification camp held earlier this month, and the team will now begin building in earnest ahead of FIFA Futsal World Cup qualifying which is set to begin next year.
“I was pleasantly surprised and could not be happier with the quality of players we had at last week’s ID camp," said Tozer. "A majority of the players were Futsal players where in the past they were strictly either outdoor or indoor players. Our goal was to rebuild the team with youth and that is evident with two players who are 17 years old and one who is 16.”
The team will assemble and train at Soccer City in southern California for its first extended period as a squad. The Soccer City facility has played a major part in helping to identify talent and provide an atmosphere to help the team as it looks towards World Cup qualifying in 2012.
“We have a lot of work to do and that starts next week in Torrance," continued Tozer. "We are extremely excited to get together as a national team to prepare for the Gran Prix in Brazil next month.”
The U.S. Futsal team will travel to Brazil for the Gran Prix, an annual tournament that is the premier futsal event in the world. An invitation-only event, the USA will learn its schedule and opponents in the near future.
The 2012 FIFA Futsal World Cup will be held in Thailand from Nov. 2-18 next year.
