Chicago Fire PDL Defeated Madison 56ers Today to Secure Final Spot in Third Round;
Results from Third Round Games on June 28 Will Determine Match-Ups
CHICAGO (June 22, 2011) – U.S. Soccer has announced the possible home teams for the quarterfinals of the 2011 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Chicago Fire PDL defeated the Madison 56ers today to secure the eighth and final spot in the third round.
Chicago Fire PDL defeated the Madison 56ers in a game that was rescheduled due to weather on Tuesday evening. The game was called due to lightning in the 18th minute, with Chicago Fire PDL up 1-0 off a Chris Estridge goal in the ninth minute. The game was replayed today from the start, and after a scoreless first half, the Fire scored two goals within two minutes to secure the win. Chicago Fire PDL will face Sporting Kansas City in the third round.
The eight winners from the second round will face off on Tuesday, June 28 against one of the eight qualified Major League Soccer teams in the third round. The results from this round will determine the match-ups for the quarterfinals to take place on Tuesday, July 12. The semifinals will be played on Tuesday, Aug. 30 and the 2011 U.S. Open Cup final is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 4.
