Training Camp Opens for U.S. MNT
CLAREMONT, Calif. (Saturday, January 5, 2002) - The first training camp of 2002 for the United States opened this morning in Claremont, Calif. in rugged fashion. Twenty-four players, including goalkeepers, were put through the famed "beep test", a grueling fitness evaluation tool.

CLAREMONT, Calif. (Saturday, January 5, 2002) - The first training camp of 2002 for the United States opened this morning in Claremont, Calif. in rugged fashion. Twenty-four players, including goalkeepers, were put through the famed "beep test", a grueling fitness evaluation tool.
Expected to arrive in camp tomorrow are goalkeeper Tony Meola and midfielder Eddie Lewis. Lewis was expected to participate in Fulham's third round FA Cup match today, but the game was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
U.S. coach Bruce Arena will run twice-daily sessions for the remainder of the week in preparation for the opening match of the 2002 Football Confederation Gold Cup against Korea on Jan. 19 in Pasadena.
