U.S. MNT Captain Reyna Sidelined with Knee Injury
CHICAGO (Friday, November 1, 2002) - U.S. Men's National Team captain Claudio Reyna will be sidelined for approximately six months after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament and a lateral meniscus tear in his left knee.

CHICAGO (Friday, November 1, 2002) - U.S. Men's National Team captain Claudio Reyna will be sidelined for approximately six months after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament and a lateral meniscus tear in his left knee. Reyna, 29, injured the knee in the 39th minute of Sunderland's 1-1 draw with Bolton on Monday. U.S. Men's National team doctor Bert Mandlebaum, who will perform the operation, confirmed the injury in an examination yesterday.
"I had a chance to speak to Claudio," said Bruce Arena, head coach of the U.S. Men's National Team. "He's obviously disappointed. While the injury is unfortunate, I have every confidence that Claudio will recover fully. We wish Claudio and his family the best in his recovery process."
Reyna will travel to Los Angeles for surgery; however, no date has been set.
