7:15 a.m. Wake up and roll around in bed until the alarm goes off at 8:15. Time change still has a hold on me.
8:30 a.m. Head down to breakfast in the hotel restaurant with Heath . Fruit and a muffin everyday. I’m not a big breakfast guy, and definitely don’t want to fill up before the morning session.
9 a.m. Swing by the equipment room on the way back to our room to pick up our training gear for the morning session. Get dressed in a hurry.
9:30 a.m. Meet downstairs and find a van to hop into for trip to HDC. Jammin’ out to tunes and have random conversations that don’t involve soccer.
9:45 a.m. Arrive at the field and complain to each other how sore everyone is from the night before
10 a.m. Training begins with a long warm-up today mainly due to our 60 minute inter-squad scrimmage last night. We certainly need it.
10:30 a.m. We break off into two groups and head for opposite sides of the field. One group works on some ball work and quicker movements while the other works on short range finishing and crossing.
11:30 a.m. Cool down and head back to the Marriott. One down.
12:15 p.m. Heath and I head down to the meal room for a lunch that consists of fruit, pasta and a ham and turkey sandwich. As it turns out, I’m pretty predictable when it comes to food.
12:45 p.m. Back in bed as quick as possible for a highly anticipated two-hour nap
3:15 p.m. Wake up and roll around in bed until Heath gives in and gets the gear for the second session of the day
4 p.m. Meet downstairs for our second practice and depart for the fields. Ride over consists of guys trading rumors on what the fitness work will be. I’m wishing I was still back up in bed.
4:30 p.m. The warm-up begins and training this evening starts with a 9 v 9 +2 possession game. That’s followed by a three team, 7 v 7 round robin tournament to big goals with the team sitting out doing some core/abdominal work. After that, a gift from above. The dreaded fitness is moved from this evening to tomorrow morning’s session.
7 p.m. Return to the hotel completely worn down from the day. Heath, Brad Guzan, Zach Wells, and myself decide to get a quick dinner at Boston Market. Of course, as we start to order the cashier proceeds to tell us that they are out of chicken. Out of chicken? After having as much fun as possible with that situation, we roll over to Quiznos for a sandwich. Guzan and Wells not happy with the compromise.
9 p.m. Head down to the lobby with my laptop for the free internet. Check my email and catch up a little on the instant messaging.
11 p.m. Back in bed eagerly looking forward to our fitness session tomorrow morning …
