Best place to live: On a beach, in the heart of a big city or on a large ranch?
“The heart of a big city. New York City. I like that it has so much energy in it and it makes you want to do a lot of stuff, and not just sit at home.”
Best pre-game ritual: sleeping, listening to music or just relaxing?
“Listening to music. I listen like to house music and I listen to Linkin Park.”
Super power you’d most like to have: Ability to fly, invisibility or super strength?
“Super strength. Just the ability to help anybody in any way…it’d come in handy.”
Favorite subject in school: Math, science or English?
“English. I love reading. Math I hate, and not science.”
Electronic equipment you couldn’t live without: Cell phone, computer or Ipod?
“My iPod. I love music so I’m listening to it and putting so much on it. I have almost all the memory filled up.”
Favorite color shirt to wear while officiating a soccer match: classic black, yellow/gold or red/burgundy?
“The classic black.”
Toughest situation for a referee: giving an early red card, awarding a late PK or disallowing a goal?
“Awarding a late PK, because the pressure could get bad. A couple years ago, at L.A. against Colorado, I had three penalty kicks in three minutes and the last penalty kick was in the last minute of the stoppage time.”
Who’s hardest on refs: coaches, players or fans?
“I think the players because they’re always looking for a scapegoat. They’re looking at us and not at themselves.”
Favorite MLS stadium to referee a game in: The Home Depot Center, Pizza Hut Park or Toyota Park?
“Pizza Hut Park. I’ve had good luck there. I had a good MLS Cup there.”
Other than MLS, league in the world that you’d most like to officiate a match: English Premier League, Serie A or German Bundesliga?
“Serie A, because of the tradition.”
Superstitions on day of a game: Have one, have more than one or don’t have any?
“I have several, but it’s all the way I put it. My shoes first, my socks first…obviously how I set up my cards. Everything has to be in order.”
What sport is the most difficult to officiate other than soccer: Football, hockey or basketball?
“Basketball because there’s more contact.”
What single play is the most difficult action to officiate in sports: calling balls or strikes in baseball, a ‘catch’ in football or a foul in basketball?
“Calling a foul in basketball. It happens so quick you have to be sharp.”
Sport you most like to officiate other than soccer: basketball, football or baseball?
“Baseball. You have a pretty nice game just standing in one position.”
Sport you most like to play besides soccer: basketball, baseball/softball or golf?
“Basketball. I used to play recreationally. I was pretty good.”
Best sporting event: NCAA Final Four, Super Bowl or the World Cup?
“The World Cup, no doubt. The atmosphere, the people and just everything about it.”
Best kind of dishes you can make: breakfast items, dinner entrees or desserts?
“Good dinner. I make this great pasta with Italian sausage and green peppers and red peppers.”
Best concession snack at a ballgame: Hotdog, nachos or pretzel?
“Nachos with everything on them.”
You’re in charge of dinner: Cooking an actual meal, throwing in a frozen pizza or heading to a restaurant?
“I like to cook. If it wasn’t the pasta, I make this lasagna as well. I like to spend time in the kitchen so I like to dabble a little.”
Funniest animated series: “Simpsons,” “Family Guy” or “South Park”?”
“I enjoy the ‘Family Guy.’”
Reality show you’d like most to be on: “Survivor,” “The Amazing Race” or “American Idol”?
“I’m gonna take the Amazing Race. Just traveling and taking that challenge. I’d like to go somewhere I’ve never been just to experience how other people live. I’m thinking somewhere in Asia.”
Best soccer movie: “Victory,” “Bend it Like Beckham” or “Kick and Screaming”?
“‘Kicking and Screaming.’ It was good with all the little kids. It was hilarious. I like Will Ferrell. I love when he pushes the kid… It was hilarious.”
Type of music you listen to most: Classic rock, Top 40 or classical?
“ It’d be house. A lot of energy.”
You become blessed with an amazing musical voice. What singing career would you pursue: member of a boy band, solo artist or lead vocal in band?
“Lead vocal in a rock band, I’d be a rock star.”
What’s your initial reaction to this referee’s unique style? Some efficient movements, it’s completely ridiculous or what unique style?
“What a unique style, personality. That’s it. You’ve got to do it somehow. That’s his way. I respect that.”
You’d take any pointers from him?
“None at all.”
