Post Game Quote Sheet: USA 6, Jamaica 0

U.S. U-20 WNT head coach JILL ELLIS

On the victory:
“It was a fantastic start to the tournament. There were some good goals and I was happy that we didn’t concede any goals. I thought there was a little anxiety but I thought we settled the game pretty quickly. The early goal settled us down and I think some of the personalities started to emerge. Now it’s just a matter of building on the performance of some of the players and getting a look at some of the other players that we need to see in the game.”

On getting the first game underway:
“It was very exciting because when you’ve been together so little, it’s great to see the chemistry and the things you’ve been working on come into play. This is about getting through the group stage and getting the first game in will help settle us down a little bit. Now we recover and look forward to the next game.”

On the leadership of Christine Nairn and Sydney Leroux:
“I could see Christine and Sydney get the players mentally prepared before the game. They certainly made an impact on the field by scoring goals, but also in the way they worked with the other players. They made their presence felt and their experience was good to have on the field.”

U.S. U-20 WNT midfielder CHRISTINE NAIRN

On the victory:
“We came out strong and we wanted to demonstrate that it’s going to be tough to beat us. When we play our best, we can score some goals. If we can continue to score goals, it will really help us.”

On playing the first match of the tournament:
“I know some of the girls were a little bit nervous about the game. Coming out with this win in the first match gives them a little confidence under their belt. If we can continue to build off of this game, I think we’ll be fine.”

On the victory:
“It was awesome. Everyone worked together and it was a great result. Obviously, 6-0 is a big win for us. It was great to start off the tournament like that.”

On what she told her teammates before the game:
“I told them that everyone has to be a part of this game, whether or not you’re on the field or whether or not you’re sitting on the bench. We need support from everyone, on the field and off of it.”
