U.S. U-20 WNT Head Coach JILL ELLIS

On the U.S. team’s performance at the 2010 CONCACAF U-20 Women’s Championship in the first three games:
“I’m pleased that we won all three games and that we have advanced to the semifinals, but also that a lot of our players have gotten playing time. We are still starting to gel as a team, but there have been some very good goals and some good possession overall.”

On whether anything about the U.S. team has surprised her throughout the tournament:
“We’ve just come off of two training camps and I think that how quickly the team has come together has been impressive. On the field, everybody is supportive of each other and hungry to get playing time.”

On how she assesses semifinal opponent Costa Rica:
“Costa Rica is an excellent team and I think it will be very challenging game for us. We know they have some wonderfully skilled players and they play an attractive style so we are definitely going to have to be prepared. Hopefully, we’ll get our legs back with a couple of days of rest and then we’ll be ready to go.”

On facing Costa Rica on Thursday, Jan. 28:
“We’re excited to be in the semifinals. We are definitely going to be ready and bring our ‘A’ game. That’s all I can ask of my teammates.”

On playing in international tournaments, such as the 2010 CONCACAF U-20 Women’s Championship:
“I love the fact that we have the opportunity to play against other countries. Mexico was definitely a big test for us and we came out on top. It makes me and everyone on the team a better player to have challenges like this in games that really mean something.”

U.S. U-20 WNT Defender Toni Pressley

On the team’s performance against Mexico:
“It was definitely a different game from the first that we played, but we realized that they had stronger players in their squad so we had specific roles and strategies and things that we wanted to accomplish. We kept a higher backline and tried to test them as early as we could to stretch them out a little bit. In the end, I think it worked.”
