U.S. Under-17 92s to Face Brazil Live on Fox Soccer Channel
The U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team will face Brazil on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2007 for the fourth time in five years at the Development Academy Nike Friendlies.

The U.S. has yet to win against Brazil in the marquee match of the four-day tournament, losing in 2003 and 2005 before earning a come-from-behind tie in 2006.
The U.S. comes into the 2007 edition of the match-up after an opening the 2007 Development Academy Nike Friendlies with a 2-0 victory vs. Russia on Dec. 6. Carlos Martinez and Stefan Jerome scored the goals for the U.S. who won their first international match under head coach Wilmer Cabrera.
“I’m excited because not a lot of teams get to play Brazil at this age,” said Under-17 MNT 92s midfielder Charles Renken. “I want to play them and see what we have and what we can bring to them. I expect them to play good soccer and I expect our team to play well and compete and bring out all we can to get a win.”
Brazil comes into the game after a 7-2 victory over Turkey in their opening match of the International Bracket, paced by a second-half hat trick by Matheus Carvalho.
In past matches, Brazil has come out on top of closely-contested matches. The first game of the series in Bradenton came in 2003, as Nathan Sturgis, now with Real Salt Lake, scored in a 2-1 loss.
In 2005 U.S. goalkeeper Josh Lambo had the best game of his young career with nine saves. U.S. forward Ellis McLoughlin hit the post in the 62nd minute, and six minutes later Brazil turned the tables and scored the lone goal in a 2-1 win.
Last year’s edition of the match, which was scheduled to allow all 54 other teams at the Development Nike Friendlies to watch the games for the first time, saw McLoughlin earn a bit of redemption as he scored a beautiful 65th-minute free kick in a 2-2 tie. Jared Jeffrey opened the scoring for the U.S. in that match.
The Development Academy Nike Friendlies conclude on Sunday, Dec. 8, with all 56 teams in action. The U.S. U-17 92s will again play a televised match as they face Turkey in a 3 p.m. match that will air on Fox Soccer Channel at 8 p.m. ET.
