U.S. U-17 MNT Defeats Mexico to Finish in Fifth Place at Mondial Minimes

The U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team defeated Mexico 1-0 on a goal from Wesley Wade to finish in fifth place at the 40th Mondial Minimes in Montaigu, France.

MONTAIGU, France (April 9, 2012) – The U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team defeated Mexico 1-0 on a goal from Wesley Wade to finish in fifth place at the 40th Mondial Minimes in Montaigu, France.

Wade’s goal in the 59th minute was enough to place the U.S. at the top of the second-place bracket, for teams who finished in second place in their respective groups. The U.S. advanced to the fifth-place match after winning 4-3 in a penalty kick shootout against Japan after tying 1-1 in regulation.

In the first-place bracket, France will face off against England for third place while Portugal and Russia square off for first place in the tournament.
