PUEBLA, Mexico (Jan. 19, 2013) – Daniel Cuevas and Brandon Allen each scored a goal in a span of three minutes and the U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team played Panama to a 2-2 draw at Estadio Olympico.
Panama opened the scoring with a third-minute goal to take the early 1-0 lead in the closed-door international friendly match.
The USA responded in the second half with a Cuevas goal in the 52nd minute to tie the score at 1-1. Second-half sub Jonathan Top played the ball quickly on a free kick to Cuevas, who cut to his left to elude a Panama defender and took a hard low shot that found the back of the net.
Allen gave the U.S. a 2-1 lead in the 55th minute as defender Boyd Okuonu played the ball to Allen who made a run along the right flank. Allen spun past the Panama defense and struck from six yards out.
Panama salvaged a draw with a game-tying goal in the 78th minute.
The U-20 MNT is preparing for the 2013 CONCACAF U-20 Championship, which takes place from Feb. 18-March 3 in Puebla.
