GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 15, 2010) – Two second-half goals scored just three minute apart by Elizabeth Eddy led the U.S. U-20 Women’s National Team to a 3-0 victory over the University of Florida during a training camp in Gainesville.
The U.S. team dominated the match, out-shooting the Gators 22-2, but put just three in the net, the first courtesy of Amber Brooks in the 37th minute.
The goal came after Kelly Conheeney played a low, driven ball out wide to Kendall Johnson who was making a hard run down the left flank. Johnson took a touch to the end line and played a ball across the six where Courtney Jones got a foot on it. The UNC striker flicked it across the goal to her Tar Heel teammate Brooks, who was crashing the back post and slotted the ball low into the near post.
Eddy tallied her first five minutes into the second half after Courtney Verloo played a pass to Casey Short who was making an overlapping run down the right wing. Short dribbled to the end line and played a low driven ball across the six to Eddy who finished into the right side netting.
Eddy completed her brace in the 52nd minute after she battled for the ball with the Gator left back just outside the penalty box. Eddy won the tackle and then played a short ball to Vicki DiMartino who was making the run down the left side. DiMartino took a touch towards the end line and struck a rolling cross to Eddy who this time finished into the left side of the net from six yards out.
U.S. head coach Jillian Ellis made 13 subs in the match, playing almost her entire squad, including 10 changes at halftime.
