LAGOS, Portugal (Sunday, January 30, 2000) - After falling behind 0-2 on opposing goals in the 15th and 18th minutes, the U.S. Under-23 National Team roared back to take a 3-2 win over the Offenbach Kickers, a German Second Division club, yesterday in Lagos, Portugal. The first U.S. goal came courtesy of defender Chad McCarty, who knocked home a John Thorrington corner kick in the 36th minute. Just five minutes into the second half, the Americans struck again, this time with Sasha Victorine getting the goal from Thorrington in the 50th minute. With the game even at 2-2, Team USA pushed forward and got the game-winner when 17-year-old midfielder DaMarcus Beasley scored on a cross from forward Conor Casey in the 75th minute. With the result, the Under-23's finished the tour of Portugal with a 1-2-0 record, with the results listed below, and are now 1-1-0 in international play in 2000.

It was determined last week that U.S. Under-23 Men's National Team's training camp at MLS Spring Training has been canceled. Head Coach Clive Charles made the decision late last week due to a number of player injuries and the absence of several foreign-based players. The camp, which was set for Feb. 6-11 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., had included two games against MLS clubs and a tentative scrimmage against the full U.S. Men's National Team. With the cancellation, U-23 players that are with MLS clubs will now be available for the entire spring training schedule.
