Led by four goals from midfielder/forward Danesha Adams and two goals from forward Tiffany Weimer, the U.S. Under-21 Women’s National Team had a highly successful tour of Germany and Holland, winning all three games including a victory over the Dutch full Women’s National Team. Fans can get a little more insight into the trip on via “Manya’s Musings,” the journals of U-21 international Manya Makoski. The U-21s started the trip with a 2-1 victory over Seastum in Zeist, Holland, on April 29, as Weimer scored on a free kick in the 21st minute before the Dutch club equalized just two minutes into the second half. Bristyn Davis scored the winning goal in the 55th minute off an assist from Adams, also a U-20 international, to give the USA a hard-fought victory. Kati Jo Spisak and Cori Alexander split time in goal, with each playing a half. The U.S. team then recorded a big win of the Dutch Women’s National Team on May 2, logging a 2-0 victory on goals from Adams and Weimer, who scored off a free kick after Adams was taken down at the top of the penalty area. Both goals came in the second half, the first in the 58th minute and Weimer’s clincher in the 77th. The USA limited Holland to just five shots in the match, forcing Spisak to make just one save. The USA finished the tour on May 4 with a big 3-0 victory over German Women’s Bundesliga club Duisburg, putting three goals past German National Team goalkeeping legend Silke Rottenberg. Duisburg also features German National Team players Annike Krahn and Inka Grings. Adams got all three goals for the USA, the first in the 11th minute off an assist from Weimer, before pounding in two in a three-minute span in the 69th and 71st minutes, both off assists from defender Rachel Buehler, who also assisted on Adams’ goal against Holland. Alexander went the distance for the USA in goal. The U-21s will have one more domestic training camp in June in Maryland before leaving for the annual Nordic Cup, this year being held in Norway from July 13-23. The USA has won an unprecedented seven straight Nordic Cups against the best U-21 teams in Europe.
