Montreal Gains 1-0 Advantage After First Leg Win in Semifinals of USSF D-2 Pro League Playoffs
Vancouver and Puerto Rico Goalless in Other Semifinal

CHICAGO (Oct. 14, 2010) – The Montreal Impact defeated the Carolina RailHawks 1-0 at Stade Saputo in Montreal, Quebec, tonight in the first leg of their USSF D-2 Pro League semifinal series. The other semifinal first leg in Bayamon, Puerto Rico ended in a 0-0 draw as Vancouver Whitecaps FC visited the Puerto Rico Islanders.
The No. 6 seed Impact scored in the latter stages of the first half against the No. 2 seed RailHawks to take a one-goal advantage into the second leg in Cary, N.C., where they have drawn once and lost once in two meetings this season at WakeMed Soccer Park. The second leg is scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. ET on Sunday, Oct. 17.
The No. 5 seed Whitecaps and No. 8 seed Islanders could not manage a goal after 90 minutes of play in Puerto Rico this evening and will return to Vancouver on even terms. Their only previous meeting at Swangard Stadium this season also resulted in a scoreless draw. Kickoff in Burnaby, British Columbia, is scheduled for Oct. 17, 7 p.m. ET.
The playoffs consist of a two-leg, aggregate goals series in the semifinals and finals. Away goals will not be considered a tie-breaker in the aggregate goal series. If teams are tied on aggregate goals after the conclusion of the second leg, they will play two 15 minute overtime periods. Penalty kicks will follow overtime if the teams have not broken the deadlock.
