Heinrichs Chooses 18 Players to Face Mexico in Charleston, S.C. on Saturday (7 p.m. ET/ESPN2)
CHARLESTON, S.C. (Friday, January 11, 2002) - U.S. Women's National Team head coach April Heinrichs has named her 18 players that will face Mexico at 7 p.m. ET tomorrow night at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, S.C. (live on ESPN2), choosing the roster from the 24 players currently in training camp.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (Friday, January 11, 2002) - U.S. Women's National Team head coach April Heinrichs has named her 18 players that will face Mexico at 7 p.m. ET tomorrow night at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, S.C. (live on ESPN2), choosing the roster from the 24 players currently in training camp.
Thirteen of the players named currently play for WUSA clubs. Of those, nine were on the 2000 Olympic Team. Five of the players played for their colleges last fall, including defender Danielle Slaton, who was also on the 2000 Olympic Team. The other youngsters named were defenders Cat Reddick and Jena Kluegel and midfielders Aly Wagner and Aleisha Cramer. Leading the veterans are WUSA MVP Tiffeny Milbrett, U.S. captain Julie Foudy and the world's most-capped player, Kristine Lilly, who will likely play in her 229th match for the USA. Joy Fawcett will likely play in her second match for the USA since having her third daughter.
The two goalkeepers named to the roster were Jaime Pagliarulo and Lakeysia Beene. Defender Thori Bryan will be looking to earn her first cap since last January, while forward Danielle Fotopoulos will be looking for her first appearance for the USA since Oct. 7, 1999.
The USA will train in Charleston, S.C. for three more days after tomorrow's match, and then Heinrichs will pick the 18 players that will travel to China for the Four Nations Women's Tournament featuring China, Norway, Germany and the USA. The players that will not suit up tomorrow are: Goalkeeper Hope Solo, defenders Kylie Bivens and Nancy Augustyniak, midfielder Shannon Boxx and forwards Abby Wambach and Christie Welsh.
