Heinrichs Names 20 Players for 2002 Algarve Cup; U.S. Women Head to Portugal Looking to Regain Title
CHICAGO (Tuesday, February 12, 2002) - United States Women's National Team head coach April Heinrichs has named the 20-woman roster that will represent the USA at the 2002 Algarve Cup in Portugal from March 1-7, 2002.

CHICAGO (Tuesday, February 12, 2002) - United States Women's National Team head coach April Heinrichs has named the 20-woman roster that will represent the USA at the 2002 Algarve Cup in Portugal from March 1-7, 2002. The USA will face, in order, Sweden, England and Norway as it attempts to win the Algarve Cup for just the second time.
Heinrichs named 15 WUSA players to the roster, including the #1 and #3 picks in yesterday's WUSA Draft, Danielle Slaton (Carolina Courage) and Jena Kluegel (Boston Breakers), as well as five amateurs, including 17-year old forward Heather O'Reilly, one of the stars of the U.S. Under-19 Women's National Team currently preparing for its qualifying tournament for the first-ever FIFA Under-19 Women's World Championship.
Forward Mia Hamm will not travel to Portugal as she is still not 100 percent recovered from a lingering injury to her left knee. Midfielder Aleisha Cramer was not named to the roster as she is taking time off to evaluate a nagging ankle injury that may require minor surgery.
