Venue Changes For U.S. Women at 2008 Algarve Cup; USA To Play China in Albufeira, Face Italy and Norway in Alvor

CHICAGO (February 29, 2008) – The venues for all three of the USA’s Group B matches at the 2008 Algarve Cup have been changed, but the kickoff times will remain the same.

CHICAGO (February 29, 2008) – The venues for all three of the USA’s Group B matches at the 2008 Algarve Cup have been changed, but the kickoff times will remain the same.

The U.S. women will open the tournament against China on March 5 in Albufeira, kicking off at 1:45 p.m. local / 8:45 a.m. ET. The match against Italy has been moved to Alvor, a venue in which the Americans have never before played at the Algarve Cup. That match will kickoff at 1:45 p.m. local / 8:45 a.m. ET. The USA finishes group play against Norway, also in Alvor, with a kickoff at 3:00 p.m. local / 10 a.m. ET.

All-in-all, 11 of the tournament’s 24 matches were moved, mostly to accommodate television, while kickoff times were adjusted on just four matches. Eight matches of the Algarve Cup will be broadcast throughout Europe, including the third-place match and championship. None of the USA’s group games will be televised.

As they were last year, the third-place and championship games will be played at Municipal Stadium in Vila Real de San Antonio, which is right on the border between Portugal and Spain.
