Seattle Sounders Win Third Consecutive Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in Front of Record Crowd

The Seattle Sounders won their third consecutive Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup title with a 2-0 win against the Chicago Fire in front of a record crowd this evening at CenturyLink Stadium in Seattle. Goals from Fredy Montero and Osvaldo Alonso helped the Sounders become the first team in 42 years to win the Open Cup three years in a row and ensured goalkeeping legend and team captain Kasey Keller ended his final season with at least one piece of silverware.

Sporting Kansas City Claims 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup After Penalty Shootout Victory Against Three-Time Defending Champion Seattle Sounders FC

For the first time in 15 years, the 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup would be decided in a penalty kick shootout. Through 90 minutes of regulation and 30 minutes of overtime, it was Sporting Kansas City that prevailed with a 3-2 shootout victory against three-time defending U.S. Open Cup champion Seattle Sounders FC on Wednesday in front of a crowd of 18,873 at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park.

Robert Contiguglia confirmed late Friday evening after meeting with representatives from the Japanese Football Association that the U.S. Men's National Team and Japan will play on March 29 in Seattle. The game was originally announced in December and will take place at Seattle Seahawks Stadium live on ESPN2 at 1 p.m. PT.
