HOUSTON (Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004) - On an historic night in Houston, the U.S. broke out from halftime to make a scoreless match a blowout with five goals after the break. Abby Wambach scored five goals in the second half, four of them assisted by Mia Hamm, as the U.S. Women's National Team posted a 5-0 win over Ireland for its record 27th win in a calendar year. Wambach's 28 goals and 12 assists for 68 points in 2004 marks the second highest point total in U.S. WNT history, surpassed only by Michelle Akers in 1991 (85 pts. from 39 goals, 7 assists).
