U.S. MNT is Top-Ranked CONCACAF Nation in FIFA World Rankings for the First Time, Passing Mexico

ZURICH, Switzerland (Thursday, June 26, 2003) – The United States Men’s National Team is ranked as the top team in CONCACAF for the first time since the FIFA World Rankings began in August of 1993. The U.S. moved up one spot in the World Rankings to ninth, while Mexico fell from ninth to 11th. Mexico is the only other team to ever be the top-ranked CONCACAF nation. After breaking into the Top 10 last August at No. 9, the U.S. has held steady in the Top 10 for 11 consecutive months. The U.S. peaked with an all-time best ranking at No. 8 in August of 2002. Mexico falls out of the Top 10 for the first time since October of 2001.
