Second-half goals by midfielders Bobby Convey and Earnie Stewart highlighted a superior comeback as the U.S. Men’s National Team erased a 2-1 deficit and defeated Costa Rica 3-2 at the Orange Bowl in Miami on July 26, earning the USA third place honors in the 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Defender Carlos Bocanegra became only the fourth U.S. defender to score four goals in one year when he finished a clever backheel from Landon Donovan to equalize at 1-1 in the 28th minute.
