Abby Wambach and Pia Sundhage were interviewed today by ARD German TV (the Algarve is much closer to Germany than Los Angeles) as they go about preparing interviews to be used at the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup (for which the USA still needs to qualify). ARD will be the host broadcaster for Germany 2011.
One of the people interviewing Abby was German women's soccer analyst Nia Kuenzer, also known as the player that scored the "Golden Goal" in the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup Final at The Home Depot Center in Germany's 2-1 victory over Sweden. Knee injuries ended her career soon after, but how many players can say they've scored a winning goal in a World Cup Final? Just five in fact: Michelle Akers, Hege Riise, Brandi Chastain, Nia Kuenzer and Birgit Prinz.
