Former U.S. MNT midfielder Earnie Stewart, owner of 101 caps and 17 international goals, has been named technical director of AZ Alkmaar of the Dutch Eredivisie. Stewart formerly served in the same roll with NEC Breda.
Stewart is a veteran of three FIFA World Cup teams and scored the game-winning goal for the U.S. in the 2-1 against Colombia in the 1994 FIFA World Cup. It's just one of six game winning goals ever scored for the USA in the World Cup.
He is tied with Cobi Jones for the most World Cup appearances for the U.S. with 11.
After winning the league title in 2008-09, AZ Alkmaar finish fifth in 2009-10 to finish one place out of Europe.
