One of the more promising developments for the MNT has been the steady production of its strikers for both for both club and country. Of the 21 goals scored in National Team games this year, 14 have been tallied by forwards.
The form carried over to the clubs this weekend, where three strikers scored and another set up the game-winner. Here's a look:
Clint Dempsey bundled home the game-winner in the 2-1 win for Spurs against Sunderland. In typical fashion, Dempsey kept on a hustling run and stood perfectly to put home the rebound of a Jermaine Defoe shot on goal. WATCH HERE
Terrence Boyd nodded home the insurance goal in Rapid Vienna’s 2-0 win against SV Salzburg, alertly making a driving run through the center of the area and pounding a header near post. Boyd now has six goals in the 13 matches this season
Herculez Gomez made the most of his minutes, coming off the bench and scoring an enterprising goal in the 3-2 loss for Santos Laguna against Monterrey. Gomez showed off his trademark industry with a curling run that foiled the backline, then calmly slipped a low shot past the 'keeper.
In Holland, Jozy Altidore turned provider as he worked back through midfield, shielded a defender and then deftly flicked a pass on that led to the game-winner in Alkmaar's 2-1 win at Vitesse.
