Any break in the rain here in Southern California over the past few days has been just a tease as the steady percipitation pounding continues to impact the first week of WNT training camp. The U.S. team started practice this morning under dry skies, but by the end of practice that players were once again drenched. Good thing the team got in a hard workout in the morning as it was raining so hard this afternoon that training was actually cancelled. We can't really remember that happening anytime ever in a HDC camp as usually the WNT braves any elements that Mother Nature throws at'em. An afternoon off won't be a bad thing for the U.S. team, which will play a scrimmage against South Korea tomorrow, probably on turf if the rain persists through the night, which is expected.
From Associated Press:
LOS ANGELES - A third powerful Pacific storm pounded California with heavy rain and snow Wednesday, forcing evacuations of hundreds of homes below wildfire-scarred mountains, shutting a major interstate and unleashing lightning strikes on two airliners.
Forecasters warned of powerful wind gusts and rainfall rates as high as 1 1/2 inches an hour on soil already saturated from two days of wild weather that caused urban street flooding in coastal cities, spawned a damaging tornado and toppled trees.

The U.S. team had a good warm-up in the cold this morning, followed by 8 v. 8 and 3 v. 3 scrimmages, some of which will be featured shortly on all_access video via ussoccer.com's Inside the Lines. As a sneak peak, here are some still photos from training.
