She's not bringing her boots, those were hung up in 2004, but legendary U.S. striker Mia Hamm will be in attendance tomorrow night as the USA faces Germany at the Impuls Arena in Augsburg, Germany. Hamm is close friends with Steffi Jones, the former captain of Germany (111 caps) as well as Hamm's former teammate on the Washington Freedom in the WUSA. Jones is currently heading Germany's efforts to organize the next Women's World Cup as the President of the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup Organizing Committee. Hamm is being introduced as an International Ambassador for the 2011 World Cup and is in Germany doing some media interviews (mostly in Munich). She will be in Augsburg for the match, which will also be the first day fans can buy tickets for the WWC. Even if she isn't wearing a uniform, it will surely be nice to have #9 in the stadium cheering on her former teammates. After all, she knows a little bit about USA-Germany games. Nine of her career goals came against the Germans.
Mia Hamm scored 158 goals for the United States in an international career that spanned 18 years. Tomorrow, the world's all-time leading international goal scorer gets the chance to watch from a comfy seat at Impuls Arena.
