WNT Jan 9, 2012
The U.S. WNT has started its training camp in Los Angeles, a final week of practice and fine-tuning before head coach Pia Sundhage names the 20 players that will travel to Vancouver, B.C. for the CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
Sundhage called up 29 players for the camp, but just 27 are currently training as Abby Wambach and Hope Solo are in Zurich, Switzerland, for the year-end FIFA Gala Awards. Wambach is one of three finalists for the FIFA Women's World Player of the Year while Solo is being honored for earning the Golden Glove at the Women's World Cup. Sundhage is also in Zurich as she is a finalist for FIFA World Coach of the Year for Women's Football.
All three will return to the USA on Tuesday and return to training on Wed.
We are happy to report that all the players in camp are healthy and working hard to earn their spots on the qualifying roster. And as you can see below, the training conditions are perfect for this important preparation period.
