Ruiz has been a handful for U.S. teams for years
The fortunes of Guatemala rest largely on the shoulders of Carlos Ruiz, the always dangerous scoring threat out top. Physical, clever and at times even controversial, El Pescadito has the ability to score from a variety of places and is particularly adept at drawing fouls around the area. Ruiz has accumulated 100 caps, and with 54 goals is the country’s all-time leading scorer. He has already tallied five times in six qualifiers in this cycle, and has the game-winner in each of their three wins in this round. El Pescadito scored 24 goals for Major League Soccer’s LA Galaxy in 2002, leading the team to the MLS Cup and garnering MLS MVP honors that year. Ruiz also played for Toronto FC in 2008 and the Philadelphia Union in 2011 before making the move to Veracruz..
