FIFA has given the USA its one pre-game in-venue training two days before the game a few times in this tournament and it was the same here in Saitama so the Americans did a very light session that was more regeneration than soccer on a beautiful and warm night in this city that sits just northwest of Tokyo.
The squad will hit the field tomorrow morning for a more traditional training to get ready to face a strong North Korean side on Aug. 31 in a match that kicks off at 7:30 p.m. local (6:30 a.m. ET on ESPNU and ESPN3).
North Korea had little trouble in what was a less than strong group, downing Norway 4-2, Argentina 9-0 and Canada 2-1, but they feature quite a few players from its 2012 Olympic Team and the young Americans know they will be pushed to the max on when they play under the lights on Friday night. That's right, Friday Night Lights and some futbol for the U.S. team. Suffice it to say, the USA is planning on coming at North Korea with Clear Eyes and Full Hearts.
The team's legs are in good shape after the three group games, and while there are some knocks, all 21 players will be ready for selection in this first knockout game of the tournament.
