WNT May 30, 2012
Special thanks to all the Philly-area fans who packed PPL Park (15,573 strong ) on May 27 for the USA's 4-1 victory over China and for creating a special atmosphere. Although the USA fell fell behind 1-0 (whoops) the home fans helped the Americans roar back to score four unanswered goals -- two from Baby Horse herself -- and capped it off with a spectacular finish from Abby Wambach (perhaps worth the price of admission, that goal was).
That was goal #135 for Abby, which is 23 short of Mia Hamm's all-time record. Too early to start talking about Abby passing Hamm? Perhaps, but after 5-8 more goals and we thinks we'll have to start that countdown.
Next up for the USA is a trip to Sweden for two matches and there won't be many fans cheering for the Americans at those games, but the team returns to home soil for its June 30 Olympic Send-Off Match against Canada at Rio Tinto Stadium and more than 10,000 tickets have already been sold.
Can we get another sell-out? That stadium holds about 20,000, but we believe the great state of Utah can get it done!
Meanwhile, let's look back at May 27 and a few pics from a great night at PPL...
