WNT May 13, 2011
The USA has been training on the Ohio State campus at Jesse Owens Stadium, which serves as the track and soccer facility for the Buckeyes. It features a huge statue of the Olympic legend at the main entrance and before practice Shannon Boxx and Lindsay Tarpley decided to join him on the podium. Boxx made sure to mention that it was she that won silver, giving bronze to Tarpley. In fact, both athletes have two Olympic gold medals on their mantels. (They have not as yet erected a Tarpley statue in Kalamazoo or Portage, Mich., but they love the kid so much in her home area that plans may be in the works...?)
The U.S. team thought it would be a bit cooler in Columbus than it was in Florida during their three week training camp. No such luck. 80s here in Ohio, so Amy LePeilbet slathers on the sunscreen. Good skin care is a priority for the U.S. WNT.
