Herculez Gomez has already made history once in his cross-border career, having become the first player to win both an MLS Cup title (2005, LA Galaxy) and the Liga MX title (2012 Clausura, Santos Laguna). Additionally, the Las Vegas native collected the 2005 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup trophy while capturing the "double". He's also the first U.S. international to lead a foreign league in scoring, a feat he accomplished in the 2010 Bicentenario with Puebla.
Now he sits on the verge of yet another crown in another tournament, as Santos face Monterrey on Wednesday night in the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions League final (10 p.m. ET, FOX Soccer). The teams drew 0-0 in the first game at Estadio TSM Corona, so a win or anything better than a goalless draw would see Santos capture the title and advance to the FIFA Club World Cup.
