Veronica Perez, who was selected in mid-February to officiate the 2012 CONCACAF Under-20 Women’s Championship, will be an assistant referee for the semifinal match between Canada and host Panama on Friday, March 9. The U.S. U-20s play Mexico in the other semifinal.
Perez joined the FIFA Women’s Panel of Assistant Referees in 2008 and has officiated at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, as well as the CONCACAF Women’s World Cup Qualifying tournament from Oct. 28 to Nov. 8, 2011, in Mexico.
The 32-year-old California native was an assistant referee during the 2010 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup and the 2011 Women’s World Cup. The U.S. was one of only five countries to have three representatives at the Women’s World Cup in Germany, where the U.S. Women’s National Team was the runner-up to Japan. Perez officiated in the third-place match between Sweden and France.
The CONCACAF U-20 Women’s Championship semifinal round features the U.S. and Mexico at 5 p.m. ET on Friday, followed by Perez’s match between Canada and Panama at 8 p.m. ET. The third-place and championship games take place on Sunday at 5 p.m. ET and 8 p.m. ET, respectively.
