Carli Lloyd could play her first WNT match since the end of March as she has recovered from an ankle injury
With Hope Solo undergoing shoulder surgery next week, the preliminary roster for the U.S. WNT matches against China on Oct. 2 in Kennesaw, Ga., and Oct. 6 in Chester, Pa.is down to 29 players. Solo will not be replaced. Therefore, with the WPS Playoffs commencing this coming weekend, 13 players will open training camp on Monday (arrivals) and Tuesday (first on-field session). Those players include 10 from squads that did not make the WPS playoffs, plus two college players and Ali Krieger, who plays in Germany. More players will be joining the camp at various times, but these 13 will kick it off in Kennesaw:
The first week of camp should be excellent for a bunch of the younger players in camp to get some quality time with the U.S. coaching staff. If you take the combined caps of veterans Carli Lloyd, Heather O'Reilly and Christie Rampone, they total 433. The remaining 10 players total 55.
