Forward Kris Tyrpak, a former U.S. Soccer Development Academy player for Lonestar SC, was named Premier Development League Most Valuable Player this past Saturday. Tyrpak tallied nine goals and helped the Austin Aztex to its first Mid-South Division title.
But Tyrpak’s big accomplishment of the season came on Sunday as the Aztex claimed their first PDL Championship with a 3-1 victory against the Thunder Bay Chill in Austin, Texas. Tyrpak was involved in the game’s pivotal moment as his team trailed 1-0 in the early going. He drew a penalty kick that led to Thunder Bay goalkeeper Stephen Paterson’s, which then led to an equalizer on the PK and the start of Austin’s rally.
Baltimore Bays Chelsea product Peter Caringi was named the PDL Young (U-21) Player of the Year) for his play with the Baltimore Bohemians. He led the PDL with 16 goals in 12 games as he helped the Bohemians to the playoffs for the first time. Caringi was also a finalist for the MVP voting.
Among the other award finalists, Lonestar SC product Devin Cook of the Austin Aztex was in the running for Young Player of the Year and former St. Louis Scott Gallagher Missouri goalkeeper Tomas Gomez was a finalist for PDL Goalkeeper of the Year for his play with the Orlando City U-23s.
