Some notes of interest, several of which may place the current U.S. players in some historical perspective as compared to past '99 WWC legends:
U.S. forward Abby Wambach played in her 173rd match against Denmark on Feb. 29, tying her for 10th on the all-time caps list with...Briana Scurry.
Shannon Boxx played in her 159th career game against the Danes, moving into 13th on the all-time caps list and passing...Cindy Parlow.
Hope Solo played in her 110th career match against Denmark, moving into a tie on the all-time caps list with...Tiffany Roberts.
Another good note: U.S. forward Alex Morgan has scored twice in three consecutive games. She's got a ways to go to tie the U.S. record for consecutive multiple goal games, however, as Michelle Akers accomplished the feat six times in a row in 1991.
The USA had only two players score twice in a game in 2011: Morgan and Wambach.
Lindsay Tarpley and Natasha Kai both scored two goals in consecutive games in 2008, and Wambach did it in 2007, but no one has scored multiple goals in three consecutive games since Wambach did in 2006, scoring twice against Mexico (Sept. 13), three times against Chinese Taipei (Oct. 1) and twice against Iceland (Oct. 8).
