Over the weekend, New Zealand became the 13th team to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics by defeating Fiji 1-0 in the Oceania final in Taupo. Greg Draper tallied the game’s lone goal on a penalty kick.
Along with New Zealand, the following teams have booked their ticket to London: Belarus, Brazil, Britain, Egypt, Gabon, Japan, Morocco, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates and Uruguay. A total of 16 teams make up the Olympic playing field.
The USA is fighting to join this field as it hosts El Salvador on Monday (8 p.m. CT) in 2012 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Group A play at LP Field. The match is televised live on Universal Sports Network, mun2 and CONCACAF.com.
Two teams from the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying will advance to London, and the final spot will be determined in a playoff between Senegal and an Asian representative in late April.
