To watch the U.S. team at training this afternoon, you wouldn't have thought they had gotten off a plane less than nine hours earlier. Lots of energy, lots of tackling, shooting and great goals in the 4 v. 4 along with plenty of sliding around on the wet surface. Rachel Buehler channeled her best Wayne Rooney to score a cracker of a goal to end the drill, sliding to rifle a shot into the upper right corner. The U.S. players did a nice job of staying up until 9 or 10 p.m. on the first night, which will do wonders for their jet lag recovery, and they'll get to sleep in a bit tomorrow before breakfast. It's a double-day with weights and an afternoon session as U.S. head coach Pia Sundhage will get the most out of the 11 days of training before the opening game vs. Japan on March 2.
Shannon Boxx, whose sister went to UC Berkeley, and Alex Morgan, who graduated from UC Berkeley, share a chuckle as training begins.
